Monthly Report - September 2026

Previous Post | Wednesday, 16 September 2026 | Reading time: 4 minutes | Next Post

A new bugfix release, trackpad gestures on Wayland, and a new recorder option? Read on for a look at development news and the Krita-Artists forum's featured artwork from last month.

Krita 5.3.4/6.0.4 Released

Krita 5.3.4/6.0.4 was released, including some fixes from this last month.

The Recorder should no longer interrupt tools when writing a frame (bug; change by Carsten Hartenfels), and trying to export a timelapse with missing frames will rename the frame files to remove any gaps (change by Luna Lovecraft).

An issue with Android supporter pack downloads not working with a custom resource folder on some filesystems was fixed (change by Carsten Hartenfels), and new bundles have been added to the supporter packs: the SK1, SK2, and SK3 pencil sketch brush bundles by Ramon Miranda (change).

Developments in Krita Next

CICP metadata for HDR can now be saved in PNG files, and there are now explicit options for saving images' color info (change). You can read about that and more in Wolthera's HDR development topic on the forum.

Future Developments

Testing Needed: Touch Gestures Rewrite

Dmitry has put out a call for testing of rewritten touchscreen and trackpad gesture support. In particular it adds support for trackpad gestures to Krita 6 on Wayland, but it needs testing on all platforms to make sure there are no regressions.

Feature Draft: Viewport Timelapse Recording

Luna has been implementing a feature request for the Recorder to optionally capture the visible part of the canvas rather than the entire image.

That isn't as easy when it sounds when taking in account the viewability of the resulting timelapse; steps must be taken so the image doesn't jump around too much when the view changes. Check it out and leave some feedback (or just admire Tyson Tan's test-case artwork of Krita and KDE's mascots).
